About

"To deny the history of a people is to deny their humanity."

~Andrew Billingsley, PhD; Black Families in White America, 1968

Educational Malpractice is no longer an option

We're just some educators trying to do three things:

  • To provide educators with quality student-centered educational curriculum.

  • Empower students to reflect on their history and their roles in society.

  • Introduce learners of all ages to some really amazing Americans (and a few Britons) and to some shocking truths about American history.

Our Stories

No, this is not a site with only Black stories

We know what it looks like: a website full of African American stories.  Well, not exactly.  A conscious choice was made to start with stories about the African American experience because we're following the Historic Commemorative Calendar.

  • We added Martin Luther King, Jr. first so his story can be told during the holiday honoring him in January.
  • We added the Black History stories because they can be used to celebrate in February, which is Black History Month.
  • Come back in March, we'll have some cool stories about Women who have made an impact of our society.
  • In April, we celebrate Arab American Heritage Month.
  • In May, we will be honoring Asian-Pacific Americans and their contributions.
  • June brings celebrates with Pride Month.
  • Disability Pride Month is celebrated in July.
  • Come back again in September/October to celebrate Latinx Heritage Month stories.
  • We're going to celebrate all things Indigenous in October/November.

Help us out!  If you know someone whose story needs to be told, be they from the US or elsewhere (there are some amazing stories out there) or an event that should be highlighted, drop us a note.  We'll turn it into education  to be learned by all.

This is our "Why"...

During 2020, we watched the country devolve into violence yet again as Americans of African descent were treated as second class citizens. We listened to educators who were desperate to understand the true history of this country so they are better able to support the emotional and educational needs of their students. After reflection on what we have heard, Our Story was born.

Educators recognize that in order to show empathy to those they teach, they need to understand the history those students carry each day as they move through the world.  In addition, educators recognize that the history of non whites in this country is limited, at best. Many spoken to have expressed a desire to work on what they recognize as their "racist tendencies" and become anti-racist, as they understand that the diversity of their classrooms demand it. Many want to teach their students the true history of this country.

It is our goal to provide curriculum that uplift, empower and educate both students and educators.  Knowing IBPOC individuals and events that changed the way we live today is just as important as knowing our founding fathers.  We simply want to teach our students the FULL history of our country, including the painful parts and those who pushed through it all to make this country a better place.

What We Do

We provide digital and hard copy educational materials to support and uplift the history of the United States as it should be taught.

Our list of products, services and resources will grow; there is more to learn that we have time to teach, yet we shall continue to provide the opportunity to teach it all.

Join us in setting the books aside and learning history in the way every 21st century human should; in an interactive, self reflective manner.
